Scottish dancing launches afresh in Edinburgh -
This autumn, the Edinburgh Branch of the RSCDS launches a new set of Scottish dancing classes including Beginners “Country and Ceilidh” in Newington, Duddingston and Stockbridge. With the nights drawing in and St Andrew’s Day fast approaching, it’s the perfect time to learn a dancing step or two ready for all those festivities.
Scottish dancing has always been popular in Auld Reekie and the Branch, a local charity, has been offering dance classes to everyone, catering for complete beginners, to those who ‘just did it at school’, to people who have been dancing their whole lives. The best thing about the classes is you don’t need a partner, simply turn up and join in the fun.
“It’s a great way to stay fit”, says beginner John Barnstead, “and the music and other dancers make the classes great fun”.
So why not give the fun, fitness and friendship a try. More details are on our website: www.rscdsedinburgh.org
Dancing Forth
A celebration of Scotland in song, music and dance
Dancing Forth – the Scottish Show, will once again be presented by the members of the Royal Scottish Country Dance Society (RSCDS) Edinburgh Branch, sharing the breathtaking beauty of Scotland through it’s song, music and dance.
At each Festival since 1956 a unique performance has been created and presented to packed audiences. This year the dazzling show will be choreographed by Stewart Adam from Edinburgh. The dance team have already started rehearsing for the week long run of exhilarating performances.
The intricate dances and the songs have been chosen to celebrate the people, places, pastimes and produce of Scotland and the Islands. From the famous musicians of the 19th century to the Hebridean weavers who produce the world famous Harris Tweed today, the rich wealth of culture and tradition reaches out to you throughout this fabulous performance.
Joining our award-winning dancers are renowned fiddlers Pete Clark and Keith Smith along with celebrated cellist Wendy Weatherby and previous Scottish Young Traditional Musician of the Year Siobhan Miller along with Scottish actor Sean Kane.
